Random post: I'm back.
Still interested in gunsmoke and still interested in burning rubber.
Been shooting a lot recently. Still total crap with a pistol unless I'm up close, and still deadly with a carbine near or far. Been posting a lot on various forums as well. I'll transfer some of that here.
My Nissan had a road-race cage put in it. No, I don't plan on racing it, but a cage built for racing is a cage that will withstand anything my open track day and time attack efforts will throw at it. It's different than most cages that you see in cars such as mine, and it's unique in that I've spent about as much as anyone can spend on a quality cage. The seating position is moved back so I'll have a better feel for what the rear axle is doing.
Since I last wrote about my 240SX, I've changed the entire outlook of the car- it's now a complete and total track car. It now has an S14 rear subframe, different rear links, I've changed the FLCAs, replaced the front and rear bumper supports, removed the quarter windows to replace with lexan, shaved more weight out of the car, purchased a COT wing, etc. The goal is a strange one- make a Miata out of a 240SX before making a fire-breather- learn how to drive a car with downforce and with an effort toward momentum preservation (which requires the ability to walk a fine line between just-fast-enough and too-fast) before driving a car that covers my mistakes with raw power.
The car will move forward after I finish moving and I will make the front airdam subframe and the rest of the aero bracketry. Figure I might as well learn to weld, as the field I may or may not work in may or may not involve welding of some kind. I'd like to expand my repertoire of skills. I may document my attempts here.
CHANGE OF DIRECTION
The idea that gun owners must have some sort of desire to kill is ridiculous. I own firearms, I know how to use them, I am willing to use them- but I hope and, as much as an agnostic can do so, pray that I never will have to. The taking of life, be it animal or man, is something so important that one cannot treat it with any disrespect. The thought of extinguishing the flame of life is disturbing to me- the very idea that at this point in time there are people dying from man's doing sets my stomach boiling and my sadness grows.
We don't need to kill each other, and yet we do. For money, for power, for fear, for retaliation, for being different... the only time one can kill justly is if one has had force initiated against oneself. War is a repugnant, vile thing, and yet we see it all the time. I very nearly weep for these atrocities committed by every side- the people killed are husbands, wives, sons, daughters, children. I am appealing to the heart by saying such things but what else can we do; it cannot be moral to kill an innocent in the judgement of the guilty, can it?
This is cathartic. I've said it before, but I should do this more often.

Times are Tough and We're Softies
I'm not a happy person. My beliefs, my ethics, my life.... all compromised by living where and when I do. It's hard to be happy when you realize how little freedom you truly have.
This is my life, and I want to live it my way, says the selfish man. This is my life, just let me live it, says the free man. It isn't the government's life to own, to protect, to force to serve. I am not a goddamn number, I am not a goddamn cow for the milking, I am not a goddamn sheep in need of shepherding.
If I succeed, I am taxed more. If I succeed, my success is shared with those who have not succeeded. I will not glorify my life and pretend I have done anything particularly special with it, but my success has been the result of, at times, very hard work which is taxing on the mind and body. This success is gratifying, but the fact that it will be shared is infuriating. The fact that I must share it is further infuriating.
I live in a society, I understand that. I was born into a society, raised by parents living in a society. However, I owe society and you, the reader, nothing. I did not choose to be born, I did not choose where I was born. Society does not define me.
You may think me selfish. You may think me childish or entitled. Do you think of me in shackles? Shall I be forced to work and give up the fruits of my labors?
How is it fair that Americans are spending more on paying their taxes than on shelter, clothes and food combined?
How is it fair that we never get to own anything- eminent domain and the perceived "right" of the State to take one's house should one not pay property taxes ensure homes and land are never truly owned, registration fees and purchase taxes ensure cars are never truly owned, the government's perceived "right" to sell one's possessions ensure TVs, computers, etc. are never truly owned, the government's perceived "right" to kill you because you have violated their corrupt laws but refuse to give in means your self is never truly owned. We are trapped by the system, we will never be free any longer. Free men have a luxury none of us have ever known- no claimants. Free men know fairness- we do not. Free men have only thieves to guard against, we have governments.
Do you understand the Leviathan? It owns you, can claim your belongings or your life at any point. We read books about people rebelling against it, we support movies suggesting its dismantling, while gladly paying the taxes it has enacted.
Look around. There is nowhere free anymore. Everywhere has been claimed. There are no more frontiers. Christ, that's a sad thought, innit?

Treatise on Rights and Progressive Statism
Note to all third parties: I am not the voice of the American firearm rights activist. I am the voice of myself and no one else, to take what I say as indicative of a movement or proof of danger is to ignore the reality of the situation.
We have a serious problem in these United States. The right calls it "socialism."
However, the problem is not socialism, it is simply expanded progressivist statism. Similar, but different.
The attempts to create a nanny state are not why we should be afraid. The forced redistribution of wealth and power are, however, why we should be afraid. The American peoples' apparent agreement with forced redistribution is something we should fight.
No man has claim to the fruits of any other man's labor.
The IRS, BATFE and the penal system, among other government agencies, derive their power from the barrel of a gun. To any rational person, this is the truth. The means of compliance is the threat of force. The threat of force is the threat of physical violence or unwanted taking of wealth. They threaten force not because of injustices committed but laws broken. Laws which are not concerned with justice. Laws which ignore justice.
I ask you, Americans, where the justice is in sentencing a man to jail for carrying a gun? Not for robbing someone, not for waving it around, not for shooting your dog with it, but just for being in possession of the gun.
I ask you, Americans, where the justice is in sentencing a man to jail for carrying marijuana or ecstasy? Not for selling it, not for robbing someone to finance it, but just for being in possession of the drug.
I ask you, Americans, where the justice is in forcing a man to pay a fine because he was operating a business without a license? He conducted transactions in the same manner, committed no fraud and injured no party, yet he now owes the state thousands of dollars.
Where is the injured party in each of my above examples? Where has there been any injury caused?
No injury, but met with threat of force.
Their threat of force is not in defense of rights, it rather seeks to destroy rights. To disarm those who threaten to meet force with force, to destroy destruction, is the logical progression.
Why must we continue to oppress those who are not infringing upon the rights of others? Are we, a nation with the largest prison population and highest incarceration rate in the world, doing what is right or what we are told? We are the shining beacon of the world, with the light created on the backs of 7.2 million "criminals."
Enough is enough. Our government wields the power to take away a man's freedom for life without a man ever having committed an injustice. If our government here in the state of California charges you with a crime, you have no choice but to prove yourself guilty and you have no recourse to get your life back. You cannot sue the state for a wrongful arrest and get your court fees back. You cannot sue the state for your lost pay and sleepless nights.
Isn't it scary, the power the government yields? We must counter that power.

Rand Shrugged
This post was about Atlas Shrugged. I changed my mind.
Now it's about the justice system.
How perverse it is to call this current penal system a "justice" system. How perverse it is to consider it just to imprison a man for possessing the leaves of a plant or bringing into the state or assembling within the state a firearm magazine with a capacity over 10 rounds. How perverse it is to give a person time in prison for assembling a firearm in a certain way but never taking it out of the house. How perverse it is to unlawfully arrest someone, force them to drain their life savings to fight the charges in court, then refuse to be held liable for the court costs.
There is no justice in this system. There never will be. There is just a disgusting disdain for reason and a heaping helping of non-First prior restraint.
I have no respect for ANY police officers because they work for this system. They have sworn an oath to the Constitution first, everything else last. They ALL forget it. They ALL are useless government stooges.
One cannot work for a corrupt government without becoming corrupt. All government workers, military branches especially included, are useless human beings who live on the back of others. We pay their paychecks through taxes and regulations, fees and tariffs. They are part of the leviathan, and they are part of the problem.
We should have no standing army, and the bloodthirsty imperialists who join the armed forces are useless except to kill innocents. You claim you fight for "liberty" but you work for a government who fights against it. You are not patriots. You are misguided soldiers of fortune, mindless drones who derive honor from disobeying our country's heritage and imposing the will of America on countries that are not America, don't want to be America, and will never be like America.

Hearts and Minds
Remember, freedom advocates, that we must win the hearts and minds of the people in order for our causes to come full circle.
Politics is the game the enemies of freedom play, so it is politics we should play. Remind those who are willing to listen that freedom is not blue or red, freedom doesn't have an animal representing it (except, perhaps, the rattlesnake) and that liberal or conservative are labels which need not apply. Liberty is colorblind and should have no party affiliation.
We must get the word out, be it through fliers or posters or t-shirts, or community forums. We must let the people know what is going on and how to stop it. We must rally, we must create numbers which were previously only a dream for the movement of liberty.
What do we tell them? We tell them the story of freedom, how the government encroaches upon it every day, we tell them how their tax dollars are squandered and their lives are affected. Though the Constitution does need a reworking to be a stronger document, we should encourage them to read the Bill of Rights and utilize their reason to become better citizens. Emotion is used by politicians, so we must ignore the emotional arguments and go straight for the left side of the brain, so that when we're done, the right side puts it all together and understands the big picture.
When we have the necessary support, it is time to rebel. There is no time better than now, with the government (state and federal) hurting for revenue. I advocate using your 5th Amendment protections at all times when dealing with government agents, to let them know that we will not be intimidated.
It is time for a tax rebellion. Do not pay, do not let the government collect anything from you, the unrepresented. We will be fined, we will be threatened with jail, but do not waver, friends of liberty.
The government will realize its mistakes and it will change. When enough of its stalwarts are ousted and blacklisted by the public, it will understand, and it will change.
Time to study for my Japanese midterm.

One Post More than a Year Ago?
Yikes.
I'm just not a prolific writer as far as blogging goes.
Since the last post, the TLR has been de-TLR'd and equipped with a bullet button. I've put a few hundred more rounds down the pipe but other than being broken in, it's bone stock with the exception of a CAA grip.
I also bought a Sig-Sauer P226 DA/SA chambered in .40S&W, which had a few problems that required it being shipped back to Sig. They fixed and returned it in one business day, by the way.
I carried it openly at the last OC event down in San Diego in a Blackhawk! holster with a double magazine holster on my weak side. It wasn't nearly as obtrusive as I had feared.
On the whole burning rubber front, nothing doing. I haven't been to the track in forever and I almost forget what a decent ~7-degree-slip-angle drift feels like. On the plus side, I've acquired some 16x12 Dymags from the Nissan GTP ZX-T team and some BBS wheels from the Nissan P35 and GTP-90 teams that I'm trying to sell to cover the cost of finishing my Koni 8611/custom housings/custom sleeves/custom springs setup.
It's funny how one's interests change so rapidly sometimes. I still love my Nissan and cars in general, but I feel the need to stock up on firearms and learn more about the financial conditions to combat the rise of idiocracy.

Welcome, and Molon Labe
Welcome. My name's Steve and I'm a car nut and a firearm enthusiast. Other than my fiance, the three loves of my life are cars, firearms, and politics. You'll also notice, hopefully, a respect for the English grammar conventions and a certain amount of attention paid to spelling. I intend to make this as easy-to-read as possible, lest you go all cross-eyed on me.
I'm young (21) and currently in college pursuing a marketing degree, but that may change to a degree in criminal justice. Right now, I'm just not sure.
I own one of those loud, low, stiff import cars that everyone gets all bent out of shape about. It's a '92 Nissan 240SX and you'll be hearing quite a bit about it as time goes on. It has no power but is all about momentum preservation. No, I don't drift. I've replaced literally everything in the suspension and removed hundreds of pounds from the original curb weight.
You're also going to read about (and hopefully respond to) my beliefs on American drivers and American vehicle code. You can probably guess that I'm not enthusiastic toward either.
I also own a Kalifornia-legal Bushmaster Carbon-15 top-loading rifle, or TLR for short. Oh yes, it's going to be modified with a Bullet Button, some quality time with a Dremel, and some C Products 10/30 mags. Why buy an OLL when you can just make your own? I only have 296 rounds for it at this time, and with .223 going up in price and the fact that I'm going to have to use all of that to break the gun in, I'm definitely going to have to buy more at the February Crossroads of the West gun show.
Will that be my only AR? Not bloody likely. I plan on an aluminum black gun as well, something with a foward assist just in case there's another fire here and I'm forced to move into home defense against looters. I trust the strength of the carbon composite, I just don't like the lack of a forward assist.
I'm also into open carry, gun safety, and target shooting bolt-action rifles such as my father's 22-250 Remington 700.
As far as politics are concerned, I'm a classical liberal/strict constructionist/fiscal conservative. According to both the left and the right, I'm both baby-killing and heartless, so it's win/win.
I like Ron Paul. He seems to be honest and his voting record is pro-freedom and pro-2A. I also have yet to see him muzzlesweep a crowd or put his finger on the trigger of a gun he wasn't about to fire.
I will be wearing an empty holster to school as often as possible to protest the campus kill zones the idiot bureaucrats implement.
That'll start it off, methinks.
